Air Emissions
To protect the Earth's ozone layer, we are committed to controlling or eliminating the release of harmful compounds wherever possible -- including ozone-depleting compounds and volatile organic compounds. Pfizer sets separate public goals and has realized significant reductions.
Ozone Depleting Compounds (ODCs): Compounds that rise into the stratosphere, where they promote reactions that destroy the Earth's protective ozone layer — letting harmful solar radiation (primarily ultraviolet radiation) reach Earth.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Photochemically reactive compounds that can react with nitrogen oxides and sulfur to form smog and ground-level ozone. This can harm human health and the environment, or harm aquatic life when released into water.
Pfizer reports data on several emission categories, including VOCs, methylene chloride, ODCs and greenhouse gases.

To help reduce air quality
pollutants in the communities where its facilities are located, Pfizer Inc has instituted a program called GreenWheels at some sites to help reduce air emissions from employees' vehicles traveling to and from work.
GreenWheels is one of the most comprehensive commuter assistance programs in existence and is the principal reason why our company was recognized as one of the nation's first Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC).
